3 Different grades of antisera

Affinity purified antisera and IgG fractions are made to a standard specification. Whole serum grade antibodies are available in bulk volumes only and must be evaluated prior to purchase.
Bulk volumes of all grades of antisera can be reserved for up to 4 weeks during the evaluation of samples.

1. Whole Serum grade

These products have a PE prefix to the product code and are clarified, delipidated whole sera. The total protein concentration is typically 20-70 mg/mL and the specific antibody content is around 0.5-2 mg/mL. This grade of antisera is ideal for use in gel techniques such as radial immunodiffusion (RID) and immunoelectrophoresis.
They may be suitable for use in turbidimetric or nephelometric applications or, alternatively, can be used as a raw material for further processing.

2. IgG Fractions

These products have a PC prefix to the product code and are produced by salt precipitation and ion exchange chromatography. They are generally supplied at 10-20 mg/mL of sheep IgG of which around 0.5-2mg/mL is specific to the target antigen. IgG fractions are suitable for use in almost all immunological techniques.

3. Affinity Purified Antisera

These products have an AU prefix to the product code and are produced by adsorption and elution from specific antigens immobilised on solid phase columns. They are generally supplied at a concentration of 1 mg/mL. Affinity purified antibodies are the product of choice for techniques where the removal of all possible interference factors is desirable. These techniques include ELISA and immunohistology.

Antibody Adsorption

Many of the listed antisera have been adsorbed to remove cross reactivity with other species. In assays where the presence of serum proteins and immunoglobulins of other species are not relevant, unadsorbed antisera and conjugates may be used. If it is important that there is no species cross reactivity, the use of solid phase adsorbed antisera is recommended. This adsorption process may decrease the avidity of the antibodies.
